Speed Test: iPhone 6s Outstrips Samsung Galaxy Note 7

If you’re going to talk about top phones, you’re going to talk about the iPhone vs Samsung phones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 no doubt, specs awesome features not seen in its biggest rival, iPhone 6s but in a recent speed test between the two devices, Samsung’s latest smartphone has paled in comparison with Apple’s iPhone 6s.

On the spec sheet, it seems the Note 7 should be significantly faster. Its processor, the 14-nanometer Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 64-bit processor, is a step up from the iPhone 6s’ dual-core A9 chip, and the Samsung phone has 4GB of RAM compared with just 2GB.

But YouTube user Phone Buff as shown that it will take the Samsung Galaxy s7 almost twice the length of time as the year-old iPhone 6s to perform a series of tasks that included launching 14 applications which includes Angry Birds, Spotify, Asphalt 8, Lapse, Adobe Photoshop Mix and more as well as rendering video.

The video below shows the iPhone 6s taking one minute and 21 seconds to complete the tasks one time, while the Note 7 took two minutes and four seconds. Reopening the apps already loaded a second time, the iPhone 6s took an extra 30 seconds compared with the Note 7’s 45 seconds.

Recall that the iPhone 6s is running the latest iOS 9.3.4 with just 2GB RAM, Apple A9 dual-core processor and a 1334 x 750 display. The newer Samsung Galaxy Note 7 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, sports 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 820 SoC and comes with a 2k display.

One of the reasons that the new Samsung phone appears to under perform compared to the iPhone is that Apple puts a lot of effort into integrating its software and hardware. A fluid operating system that performs great with minimal hardware power, gives the iPhone an edge over Android devices.

Nevertheless, the Galaxy Note 7 outstrips the iPhone 6s in many other ways. It has wireless charging, is waterproof, has a rear-facing 12-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing one. Because of its curved edges the smartphone has a 5.7-inch screen but is smaller than the iPhone 6s Plus. It also has a super AMOLED screen and retina scanning technology.

That said, with the iPhone 7 expected next month, Samsung still needs to put a lot of work into optimizing its software to maintain it’s spot among the top phones.
